Julia Gardiner Tyler was the wife of the 10th President of the US, President John Tyler, of whom the city of Tyler received its name. I chose to do a portrait of the lovely First Lady Julia Tyler, also known as “The Rose of Long Island”. In the original photo of Mrs Tyler, she was holding a pen and paper. With the city of Tyler being known for its beautiful roses, and Mrs Tyler being called “The Rose of Long Island”, I found it fitting to capture her holding a spray of roses, in lieu of the paper and pen.
