Biography
Martha G. Bachman worked for 37 years to improve vocational and technical education in Delaware. She was the first woman president of the Marshalltown School Board, the first chairperson of the State Advisory Board on Vocational Education, and was Presidentially appointed as the first woman on the National Advisory Council on Vocational Education. Bachman was “the force behind the development and implementation of a full-time, county-wide vocational school district in Delaware.”
Bachman also helped to establish the first American School in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico and participated in the U.S Navy Command’s Education Action Council. She is best known “as an outspoken advocate, her dedicated spirit and tenacity resulted in increased funding for vocational programs, student organizations, facilities, and teachers. She used her own special brand of leadership and vision for projects that included innovative programs, services, facilities, and legislation.”
