ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
In this piece I tried to convey a sense of relentless striving to support, sustain, to lend a hand, to save others.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting and drawing have been the artist’s passion since childhood with an early love of abstract art and abstract expressionism. Rebecca works primarily in acrylic, oil, and oil with cold wax. She often incorporates recurring themes in her work including the landscape and the figure. But many pieces are complete abstractions meant to convey a sense of energy, mood, and the intangible.
Both ancient and primitive art as well as modern have been important influences. She is continually inspired by the paintings and drawings of Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, Alberto Giacometti, Robert Rauchenburg, and Andrew Wyeth.
She holds a BFA in painting and drawing and has studied with artists in Ireland and Mexico as well as the Missouri area.
