Mère (Mother)
The gold gloss in Mère mirrors its counterpart in Père with similarly jagged, organic edges, yet here it flows more naturally into the surrounding matte blues. This interplay between the roughness of the gold and the smoothness of the blue embodies the nurturing yet imperfect process of creation and care. The forms are softer and more fluid, hinting at the maternal influence’s adaptability and the tender resilience required to sustain life.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Creating Père (Father), Mère (Mother), and Embryonic was a deeply personal exploration of my own origins—an abstract journey into the forces that shaped me and the process of becoming. These works reflect the tension and beauty in creation, where the vibrant gold gloss symbolizes the spark of life, bursting forth with energy, while the matte blues evoke the nurturing, expansive spaces that hold and support it.

Each piece embodies a chapter in this story: Père conveys structure and initiation, Mère captures flow and nurturing, and Embryonic represents the fragile, transformative potential of creation itself. The interplay of gloss and matte finishes emphasizes the dualities inherent in life—vitality and stillness, creation and containment, chaos and order.

In the context of Nevertheless, She Persisted, these works honor persistence as an act of self-discovery and expression. They celebrate the resilience of life and the power of creativity to transcend challenges. For me, to create is to persist—not just against external barriers, but as a way to honor the act of becoming whole, of existing fully as an artist, a woman, and a person.
