In the Spring of 2015, Michael was on an extended Artist's Residency at Venice Printmaking in Venice Italy. During the month-long stay in Venice, Michael made a number of drawings and this series of large-scale, unique, woodcut monoprints. Long inspired by the sea in his native New England, Michael found the Venetian life on and around the water equally inspiring. This series of prints derived from a single block of wood. Drawings and sketches from the waterfront near the studio where he worked, led to the imagery, suggestive of sky, water and piers.
