This small, oil on panel painting, although painted earlier, feels fresh and connected to the ideas found in more recent work. There is suggestion of a landscape with larger passages dominated by translucent whites. At the time, Michael, having spent time on the Italian coast near Tarquinia was inspired by the Etruscans and stories of their possible arrival over the sea. The shapes in the painting recall the shapes found in Etruscan pottery vessels.
