An experiment at first, the idea of incorporating woodcut prints into the paintings themselves. Printmaking is integral to the processes of Michael Rich. Coyote happened after a real-life encounter with a coyote while on a walk one morning in the city. This black and white painting begins with collaged, original woodcut prints mounted to the canvas, then is layered with gesso and oil paint. An artist known primarily for his use of color, the black and white painting are rare but powerful statements of forceful composition.
