Samuel M. Green(1909-1995) Art professor, artist and author

Samuel Magee Green, a noted watercolor painter and former art professor at Wesleyan University, died Wednesday. He was 85.
Green joined the Wesleyan faculty in 1948, when the art department was housed in three rooms in the school’s library, and stayed until his retirement.

Born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. he earned a bachelor’s degree and doctorate from Harvard University. He also taught at Wellesley College and at Harvard.

Green’s art has been displayed at the New York World’s Fair and is included in the collections of several museums. He also wrote American Art: An Historical Survey.
