Carved by artist in the Traditional Japanese Noh mask style. Noh mask's are typically carved with cypress then painted over, but mahagony was chosen to create a distinct style for the artist.
3 creases carved on forehead. Thin unibrow carved, extending to eyelids on each side. Closed eye slits carved out, with one narrow line carved on top of each lower eyelid. One line carved on each cheek, following the the curve of the cheekbone. Slightly opened mouth with six teeth showing on the top row. Two nasolabial lines on each side of mouth. Vertical cheek contour line on each side.
