Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Flower crown around the forehead border. Border of eyes painted with a thick, red design. The top of the border swirls and the bottom border points out, with a faint yellow accent. Red line on the chin, with yellow inner accent. Large, blue circle on the center of forehead. Small, orange circle on the center of chin. Three circles on each cheek, starting at the inner corner in green, following in blue and yellow. Blue nose tip. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in purple.
