Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Color scheme painted in pink and purple. Top border of eyes and forehead painted in pink. Purple and pink lines painted on the forhead, chin, and cheeks. Triangular lines painted on the forehead. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in purple. Short, brush stroke marks painted above the teeth. Inner brush stroked painted purple, outer brush strokes painted pink. Gems of various colors on the chin, cheks, and forehead.
