In this exhibition called “Gesichte” [faces] at Villa Stuck in Munich, photographer Hubertus Hamm and Walter Storms presented a series of large-scale Polaroid portraits of each participant, transforming the conventional art of portraiture into an exhilarating artistic experience. Emphasizing creativity without boundaries, Hamm invited around 30 diverse artists, including the german artist Günther Uercker, to explore and manipulate their images in innovative ways. The result is a stunning tapestry of artistic expression, where each portrait becomes a unique narrative, reflecting the individuality of its subject while pushing the limits of visual art. This collaborative endeavor not only showcases the talents of the participating artists but also redefines the essence of portraiture in the contemporary art scene.
The artist MARK has ingeniously transformed fragments of the portrait outlines into steel elements, crafting a monumental sculpture that stands approximately three meters tall. This innovative approach not only retains the essence of the original portrait but also reinterprets it through the lens of industrial materiality. Each steel fragment is joined together, creating a surreal form and texture that invites viewers to engage with the work from multiple perspectives.
