This Painting is based on the installation "Atmosphere," born from a live performance in 2003, stands as a haunting tribute to the fragility of our natural world. Massive trees, once towering sentinels of the rainforest, have been meticulously cut into pieces and reassembled, a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between nature and human intervention. At the heart of this striking composition lies a cluster of oxygen tanks, symbolically tethered to the very essence of life that these trees once provided. Set against the backdrop of the Museum of Modern Art, the project faced significant scrutiny and resistance, particularly in retrieving materials from the pristine beaches of the Peninsula de Osa. Yet, with the invaluable support of the government, permission was granted to repurpose these culturally significant elements, celebrating a heritage deeply intertwined with nature. In Costa Rica, stringent laws guard against the exploitation of its lush landscapes, preserving the integrity of the environment. As I gaze down upon the remaining fragments of this once-vibrant rainforest, a wave of emotion washes over me—a bittersweet acknowledgment of what has been lost and a fervent hope for what remains.
