As a young boy and eldest son of Mexican immigrants, I
remember getting mixed messages of who I was from the “community”.
My family instilled in me a sense of pride and possibility for what I was
and what I could become. Around me I heard other words, sometimes
negative words, that tried to convince me that I could not succeed. I
found my path in a spray can and I learned a vocabulary that allowed me
to continue moving...forward...ADELANTE.
