Observational nature study based on the Cuckoo Flower (Cardamine pratensis) - aka Lady's Smock, Milkmaids and many more.
I am currently encouraging more flowers to grow in the short grass by less frequent mowing and raising the cut height. I have tried to grow this in the meadow area to little effect but one flower appeared in the main lawn during no-mow-may, so I am hopeful. They are common in the roadside ditches here.
The Orange-tip Butterfly flutters through the garden in Spring. Locally there are good supplies of Garlic Mustard as well as Cuckoo Flower (alternative food plants for the caterpillar). I am less keen to grown Garlic Mustard in the garden.
