Hornets were the highlight of my final 2024 Beewalk at Heather Wood and I was thrilled to watch them patrolling the brambles along the Sussex Border Path. I didn't find the nest but I went back a few times to sit quietly and absorb these large gentle insects going about their daily lives. Exploring the hedges, drawing, photographing and sometimes just sitting and watching, collecting: the final piece, drawn in the studio from specimen and sketches, reliving those quiet moments outside.
