Tracey works for LOROS in Leicester, she is their ‘Counselling & bereavement services manager’. Her role is to support terminally ill patients & their families on ward or bereaved family members on a face to face out patient basis but currently she is supporting patients, their families & staff through telephone counselling.
Her friend & previous colleague, Barbara, who asked for the portrait said,
‘’How Tracey does it normally is humbling but currently... it’s a horrendous time, the impact of supporting people & hearing the multi-faceted complexities that Covid is having. The impact on terminally ill patients who can’t see family & friends...some people who would normally be offered chemo...the threat of dying due to not being able to have treatment because of the spread of the virus is unimaginably stressful.’
‘Tracey is such a genuinely generous person - she is very, very special’
Loros is a local charity that was founded in 1977 & provides free care now for over 2500 people living with a terminal illness across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. The NHS help by providing 343 staff & some money but LOROS still need to raise £6million per year. They do this by fundraising, they have 1500 volunteers, 29 charity shops & 24,950 people do the LOROS Lottery. You can read more about this amazing charity on their website.
Tracey is an uplifting person who encourages people to live their life whilst coming to terms with a terminal illness. I hope this portrait with its uplifting blue sky reminds her how valued she is, what a wonderful difference she makes to peoples lives & what an incredible job she is doing.
