Below Pugnuts Ice Cream Shop in Surry is the Surry Town Wharf. Just off to the side, Patten Creek falls into Patten Bay on its way to Union River Bay. It is one of my favorite places to just sit and watch Mother Nature. Once I watched a blue heron fishing for about an hour while the tide was rising, and just this winter I watched a pair of common mergansers looking for fish in the ice-free creek run. The falls from the creek become ferocious after a rainstorm.
