My painter friend Liz introduced me to Balance Rock, a famous erratic boulder which sits on the shore at Bar Harbor. Glaciers transported it at least 30 miles from inland Maine. Despite appearing to barely be balanced, it actually is quite secure and so far has resisted centuries of storms and frat-boys attempting to tip it over.
