Guanyin or Guan Yin is the most commonly used Chinese translation of the bodhisattva known as 'Avalokitesvara'. In English usage, Guanyin refers to the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion and venerated chiefly by followers of Mahayana Buddhist schools as practiced in the sinosphere.
