Horyu-ji is one of Japan’s oldest temples, founded in 607 by Prince Shotoku, and contains some of the world’s oldest surviving wooden structures. It was the first structure in Japan to be declared a World Heritage Site.
A persimmon tree stands beyond the great temple gate, as a lone man walks a narrow path. This work makes generous use of mica highlights applied throughout the design.
