Many wonder where my passion for art began, and while I can't pinpoint a specific moment, I have always held art close to my heart, even as a young girl. I remember being inventive, creating various projects with my hands. Though I was a good student overall, art classes were where I truly excelled. One memorable assignment involved drawing my interpretation of Medusa. Despite never having seen an image of her, I created for a teacher's special project, a six-foot painting inspired solely by the words describing her. This experience ignited my love for transforming words into sculptures and paintings.
At 17, I married the love of my life and quickly began painting murals throughout our home, many featuring my favorite Disney characters. After supporting my husband in his furniture business and raising four incredible children, I felt a powerful yearning to pursue an art career that I couldn’t ignore.
In my late 20s, I finally found the courage to apply to the Ottawa School of Art, where I studied for three enriching years. Each day was a blessing, surrounded by art and fueled by the unwavering support of my husband and kids. Following my program, I apprenticed with a sculptor for a year and then participated in a summer sculpture program at the Florence Academy of Art, in Florence, Italy.
Eventually, I faced the daunting task of establishing myself as an artist. Admittedly, I knew little about this aspect of the art world, which may have worked to my advantage. I jumped several conventional steps and soon found myself exhibiting my work in major art shows. My artistic journey continued to evolve, fueled by my passion for creation.
Years later, both my husband and I decided to dedicate our lives to art as our children and grandchildren became self-sufficient. This newfound freedom allowed us to embark on an adventurous eight-year journey, living full-time in an RV, which served as my studio while we traveled across North America and participated in major art exhibitions.
Today, art is truly at the center of my life. After signing with Disney Fine Art, I am excited by endless possibilities. I am currently working on three distinct collections, all involving painting and sculpting. My first love, figurative art, remains at the forefront of my creative process. I’ve also created the Bluebell Collection, inspired by my little white dog, Blue, and her beloved dragon, Bell. Moreover, I am thrilled to be part of the Disney Fine Art family, crafting Fine Art sculptures and paintings inspired by their most iconic characters.
I am surrounded by wonderful art collectors who possess incredible vision and support visual arts wholeheartedly. I feel incredibly blessed to fill my days with painting and sculpting these magnificent visions. With my husband Marc, managing the business side, I have the freedom to create from morning till night without worries. My studios are alive with various projects taking shape, and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
On the personal front, I feel profoundly blessed to have the continued support of my children, their spouses, and now our growing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I thank God every day for filling our family with so much love. As I always say, I hope to be blessed with the ability to sculpt and paint until I’m 97, then retire for three years before kicking the bucket at 100!
