Based on the Nathaniel Hawthorne story about a medical researcher in medieval Italy who grows a garden of poisonous plants. He brings up his daughter to tend them, and she becomes resistant to the poisons, but in the process becomes poisonous herself. “She was arrayed with as much richness of taste as the most splendid of the flowers, beautiful as the day, and with a bloom so deep and vivid that one shade more would have been too much."
