It's been a flurry of image gathering and visiting new places this Summer and Fall. Three Plein Air Festivals which began in Keeseville, NY, traveled to Saranac Lake, NY and ended in Tupper Lake, NY. Each community offering a bounty of beauty in land, forest, river and rock. Painting outside is challenging and an exercise in stilling the mind and leaning into the moment. I learned much and have developed a real love for being with the wind, insects, sounds, scents and light of the living, breathing landscape as I respond with marks and colors on the canvas. Each festival ends with an exhibition and sale of the artworks created throughout the week by all the artists. Each of these events was a joyful celebration with plenty of sales and new friends made along the way!
The month of September was spent at the historic residency of Byrdcliffe, NY. This is where I was given a magical studio nestled into the dense forest of the Catskills and I spent the days teaching myself to tuft rugs with my new tufting gun and piles of wool.
The summer began with an exhibition in the beautiful venue of "The Downtown Artist's Cellar" in Malone, NY and culminating with "Nature's Inner Light" at Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont.
