Susan "Sue" Atchison is an abstract artist who's work emphasizes capturing the sensations found in one's environment through oil and coldwax techniques.Initially starting as a realistic watercolor artist, Sue's work within various communitiy based project transformed her creative approaches from an early point in her career. After, her high school graduation from Russell High School in Russell, KS, Sue helped form the Russell Arts Council and pursued higher education at Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University. She dedicated over 35 years to various art education avenues, earning her the Outstanding Art Educator for Higher Education (2005-2006) from the Kansas Art Education Association. Presently, Sue enjoys retirement by focusing on pushing the confines of her personal work. From Sue's words, "The spontaneous approach that oil and cold wax provides along with the challenge of the intuitive process motivates me. I want my work to be rich and intriguing and take the viewer to a special emotional place."
