Louis Copt is an Emporia native who spent his childhood on a farm near the Flint Hills. Copt has a BFA from Emporia State University and became a full-time artist in 1985. Working primarily with oil paints, Copt captures Kansas landscapes. A huge source of inspiration for Copt is the Flint Hills he grew up in, and these hills can be seen in several of his paintings. Other notable subject matters that Copt often draws from are the annual prairie fires and the barns that inhabit Kansas. While oil is Copt's most featured medium, he has also worked with watercolor, pastel, acrylic, and bronze.
