Mapania pakaraimensis was illustrated as a new species in the plant family Cyperaceae. Four dried specimens, collected in Guyana, were sent to the author, Mark Strong, for identification and he decided they were a new species. The leaves had been folded over several times and required reconstruction for the final illustration of the habit which was rendered in pen and ink. The flowering material was dissected and drawn digitally in Adobe Photoshop.
