Radiolarians (also radiolaria) are holoplanktonic protozoa widely distributed in the oceans. They occur throughout the water column from near surface to hundreds of metres depth. Radiolarians produce intricate mineral skeletons. They are found as zooplankton throughout the ocean, and their skeletal remains cover large portions of the ocean bottom as radiolarian ooze.
