This is Frank Gaffney's donation for the 2018 Coast Guard Art Collection. The Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) . The MH-68A helicopter which is specifically designed to encounter the "go-fast" drug smuggling boat and is specially equipped with M-16 rifles, an M240 machine gun and the Barrett M107 sighted 50-caliber precision rifle. If the suspect vessel fails to stop after numerous visual and verbal warnings, the helicopter crew will take up a firing position alongside the go-fast and the aerial gunner will fire warning shots across their bow with the mounted machine gun to further compel them to stop. If the warning shots do not convince the suspects to stop, the gunner will attempt to disable the vessel by shooting out its engines with the .50 caliber precision rifle. HITRON’s primary missions are drug interdiction and Home Land Security.
