As part of Operation Arctic Crossroads, the outreach team is transported to a village by a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk, a Army National Guard HH-60 Black Hawk and an Air National Guard HH-60 Pavehawk. Villagers come out to watch as the team arrives, some on their all-terrain vehicles.
Operation Arctic Crossroads was a multi-agency initiative consisting of U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Air Force, Army National Guard, Air National Guard and U.S. Public Health Services personnel who have deployed to Nome, Alaska and Barrow for 20 day initiative to provide medical, optometry, veterinary services, boating safety awareness and other community services to more than eight communities throughout Northern Alaska, and to determine operational effectiveness and overall capabilities of operational aircraft and boats.
