This charcoal drawing is especially meaningful to me because it was inspired by an encounter during a trip to Cantril, Iowa, a place we visit often. On a detour through back roads, we came across an Amish farmer whose wagon had lost its lynch pin. He flagged us down and asked for help, and I offered to hold his team of horses—Blue and Lou—while he searched. When he found the pin, he offered a token of thanks, and I simply asked for a photo of his horses. This moment, rooted in trust and simplicity, stayed with me and inspired this piece.
