An iconic depiction of bridge architecture, “Steel and Sky” hums with visual rhythm. Mohr's use of bold red and blue tones, along with layered bridges and rippling reflections, makes this piece feel alive. It’s a tribute to the strength and movement that define riverfront towns.
Mohr was a signature member of the prestigious American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society and was a Master Watercolorist in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.
This painting exhibits his talent for using watercolor to express the active lives along the busy highways and waterways of big city life.
It all came from Mohr's imagination. Although his sketches and prints documented landmarks in the Midwest, few of his watercolors depicted actual settings. He couldn't draw on the area around his isolated studio for the crowded streets and tall buildings he loved to paint.
Instead, much of his work drew on his experience in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II, with voyages to South America, Europe, and East Asia. He also drew on his Army service during the Korean War, and on the train trips he took as an inquisitive tourist.
