A Chinese Story
One summer afternoon, while walking through Chinatown and leaving a store, I encountered artisans seated on the sidewalk, selling their creations.
Among them was José, who looked at me with his dilated pupils.

We spent several weeks assembling and disassembling necklaces and bracelets together, but I never dared to ask how, at such a young age, he came to be in a wheelchair.
But there it was,
his outsider art and him,
amid the summer,
in Chinatown.

A burst of salmon hues radiates across deep in the canvas,
characters from Chinatown appear in my atelier, playful, eager to stay.
