Last spring I went on a trip with my family to Costa Rica and fell in love with the country all over again. There was a special moment when we saw nine scarlet macaws and a toucan perched in the same tree as the sun set for the day and I wanted to make a piece that reminded me of that blissful moment. In normal life where there is always a ton of things running through my mind, this piece is my reminder of a time when all that my eyes and mind were focused on was that moment, just watching the birds. I used most of my own photos as reference for this piece, something I hope to do more of. Pura Vida, meaning “pure life”, is the motto of Costa Rica and a mentality I try to hold on to.
