Description: I drew an anthropomorphized monarch butterfly larva.
The princess's black dress and frills represent the larva, and her necklace represents the eggs.
The flower she is holding is a milkweed.
Monarch butterfly larvae eat milkweed leaves to store up deadly poison in their bodies and protect themselves from predators.
A female butterfly dies after laying eggs on a leaf, but is resurrected to continue the life of the next generation.
The larvae that grow up in the Canadian prairies turn from pupae into butterflies in the fall.
Then the "migration of butterflies" begins.
Their winter homes are fir and pine trees.
They spend the winter warming each other with their fellow butterflies.
They cross the American continent, battling bad weather, and arrive in Mexico in the spring.
In Mexico, butterflies are believed to be the souls of the dead returning.
Since ancient times, butterflies have been a symbol of rebirth and resurrection.
This is the theme of the work.
Nature is full of mystery and wonder.
