This piece incorporates several symbolic themes. The figures represent emotional states, wonder, melancholy, and vulnerability. The figures are at the edge of a stage, ascending or descending before the arrival of the night sky. The black wolf is descending into the frame, an overwhelming, darkened force of fate on the stage. The sweeping wolf form is also a comforting contrast for the central figure. The figure is enveloped and vulnerable. The scythe is symbolic of grim inevitability, but the moment is frozen with the addition of the fantastic moth gently disembarking from the blade to the hand. The piece, in its development, reminded me of T. S. Eliot's poem, "The Hollow Men.
"Eyes I dare not meet" is lifted from The Hollow Men.
