Artist: Orphné Achéron
exhibition title: Faraway Land
" I am a French illustrator inspired by Mythology, Antiquity and the Medieval era. I studied History of Art and fashion design in Paris. During my studies and some professional experiences within Fashion Houses, I developed my own graphic style and established my own myths and tales through illustration practice. What I liked the most.
From a very young age, I have been fascinated by Antiquity, deities and all the mysteries of the Ancient World. When I saw the Mummy in the Louvre for the first time, I was very young which made an incredible and weird impression on my mind. What was he doing there ? I had front my eyes a witness to the past life and to the connection between here and elsewhere. My work is totally imbued with it. The vestige from the past and all its mysteries and symbols which are a legacy left by our Ancestors and the result of their observation of Nature and their apprehension about the earthly life and the hereafter, are an inexhaustible and authentic source of inspiration for me.
My work is definitely a narrative of my own spiritual quest and the universal questioning of existence. That’s why recurrent features are the peaceful atmospheres, meditative vibes and quiet waves whose tranquility can dominate the work even when darkness mixes with light. This dreamy and thoughtful world, in search of spiritual strength and inner peace, is certainly a distinctive feature of my personality ; perpetually searching for harmony and balance, as much in my life as my creative process.
My solo show, entitled ‘Faraway Land’, evokes a spiritual quest through a dreamy world, between beliefs and hopes, with some reminiscences of the vestiges from the past. So myths and legends mix in. It also evokes an elusive and unknown or maybe forgotten somewhere else... Thereby allowing me to explore my own tales of spiritual quest like a walk through the sleepless nights accompanied by fantastical creatures or heavenly beings coming from a dream... as well as the Underworld.
