Creating "AUTUMN LEAVES (PURPLE MOOD)" was a deeply intuitive process that truly captured the quiet, reflective shift of the season.
When I began this painting, I was purely focused on the gesture and the material itself. The extra large canvas allowed me to be completely immersed in the work, demanding an immediate, physical response.
While my initial impulse might have led me towards a different palette, the canvas had its own ideas. It was during the process of mixing colors directly on the canvas that the piece spontaneously took this profound turn. The rich, powerful core of deep purple emerged, surrounded by the warmer, fleeting bursts of yellow and orange.
To me, this painting perfectly embodies the feeling of standing at the edge of autumn. The time for reflection, for slowing down, and for the comforting instinct to cuddle up and observe the changing light. The tension between the intense purple 'mood' and the fading 'autumn leaves' spoke to that duality. So it is an abstract expression of a moment of deep seasonal thought.
I hoped that when viewers stood before it, they felt that same sense of contemplation and the powerful, yet subtle energy of the falling light.
