An antique shovel handle I saw in the Cotswolds of England is the inspiration for this painting. I like the textures and shapes and thought this would be a lovely perch for a small bird.
The combination of shadow and light on the stone wall and accents of color from the flowers create a perfect setting for the charming wren. I used a pallet knife to apply some of the paint to add more texture to the stone wall and wooden handle in this painting.
As an artist, I enjoy these simple, lovely moments in time. Carefully and thoughtfully applied layers of paint become rich colors as I seek to bring a sense of life and a moment in time to each painting.
