One of the most thrilling and dangerous African animals to observe and paint, the cape buffalo posses an aggressive and arrogant  attitude demanding respect.  At first light when I saw the large bulls emerging from the dusty haze, with ox pecker birds flitting around the buffalo in the dawn light, I knew the scene would be a compelling painting.
