Native San Diegan Martin Luera’s body of work encompasses a varied array of images and subject matters, encouraging a unique perspective on established themes. The work with Mexican imagery expresses a love and respect for her roots and traditions, all the while giving the viewer a new perspective on an already familiar culture.

In the figurative paintings, Luera explores gender perceptions and expectations, depicting idealized male figures in situations and roles traditionally reserved for the female figure, encouraging the reexamination of established gender roles in society and their effect on our everyday lives.
