This is a painting about communication and connection between people. It is inspired by two things I find visually interesting, telegraph poles and Letraset. Telegraph poles have been used in the UK since the mid 1800s and were an early way to send messages. Letraset was launched in 1961, the year I was born and proclaimed as ‘revolutionary’ and back in the day it was. Letraset enabled graphic designers, commercial artists, advertisers and art students to set their own display type, without having to spend time and money sending out lettering to be metal typeset or drawn by hand by specialist artists.
This painting is a reminder of two historical components of communication. The work also reminds us of the importance of human connection and conversation as it states that our words are important and have the power to uplift or bring us down.
This is a richly textured painting in muted shades of green and pink with Letraset applied over the paint, it has been sealed to protect it. It comes in a white wooden frame, ready to hang.
