We honor John Reilly's board service with the purchase of "Boy with Boat" by Royal Bronze Studio. Casted in lost wax bronze, Royal Bronze Studio utilizes a labor-intensive process to capture the finest details of their original sculpture. A wax replica of the original is made and then dipped in liquid ceramic to create a ceramic mold. Once cured, the ceramic shell is kiln-fired and as the shell bakes, the wax inside melts and is lost from the shell (thus the term lost wax). After removing the ceramic shell from the heat, molten bronze metal is poured into it to create the final casting. Once the casting has cooled, the outer ceramic layer is broken away, revealing the bronze sculpture inside. "Boy with Boat" incorporates John's love of water sports and the beauty of an artistic process dating back 6000 years ago. We are excited to share this piece with John and visitors to CHCO.
