Contrails intrigue me. They are both beautiful the way they bisect the blue sky, but they also represent destruction. In paintings I usually represent them as wandering lines across the top of a composition. They are supposed to be both lines of paint and contrails. This particular painting is also of the winter. Late winter early spring drifts and the melting snow in fields. The dripping paint represents the melting snow but it is also just dripping paint. The snow drifts buttress of the bottom of the painting, creating a sense of solidity (ironically) while things deteriorate. So I suppose it’s a painting about beauty and loss. My usual theme.
