The pink granite of La Digue continues to be perforated and eroded, having to make way for houses, roads and gardens, which makes me very sad. I love the hard, but almost smooth, pleasantly warm, rounded surface of this very old stone. I keep finding a rock that seems to embrace my body like a hug, carrying me. it makes me feel safe and grounded, at peace with myself and the world.
In this painting, I have processed the sand that remains when granite is crushed. I wanted to preserve something of the soul, of the essence of this island.
