Note: This work was deaccessioned in 2022 and replaced with "A Contemplation on Peace" by Kemba Opio.
The world as we knew it drastically changed on September 11, 2001. People all across the world looked for positive ways to deal with their anger, their disbelief & their fear about continuing terrorism. The youth of our city were also affected by these events and because of this, the Thornton Peace Wall was proposed to help children express their emotions, unlock their imaginations, and be a catharsis for the events as well as to give them a "voice" to the future through the language of art. This wall served as a constant reminder to everyone who visited it that peace does indeed begin at home. Our City's children worked together to complete their tiles. These tiles came together in a mosaic to become a permanent and lasting mural for the City of Thornton to enjoy for years to come. Funded in part by an Adams County SCFD grant.
