An all-new LUNA Fête video mapping projection for 2017, Viva New Orleans seeks to create a canvas where the vibrant visual imagery of Mexico and New Orleans merge in perfect harmony. With light, music, and color, Gallier Hall’s architectural features will transform beautifully with symbols threading together both cultures.
Guided by an original musical score by award winning composer Alejandro Basulto, conducted by Nicholas Dodd (Avatar and the James Bond Saga) performed by the Budapest Art Orchestra. Jazz performances by Woody Witt (Sax), Damian A. García (Piano), David Graig (Bass), Joel Fulgham (Drums) SFX by Omar Blanco.
AVA transitions between an array of custom-made scenes. The projection builds common ground between cultures and fills New Orleans with butterflies, magnolia flowers, marigolds, luchador figures, and lush patterns. AVA reimagines New Orleans icons, representing them with handcrafts; embroidery, tiles, tin, beads, glass, ironworks, feathers, and gold all illuminating Gallier Hall’s façade. Viva New Orleans highlights the tales, folklore, and traditions that bring us together.
