- Halftone print on sugar paper (brown) mounted on foam core
-
20 x 26 in
(50.8 x 66.04 cm)

The screen-printed images were formed from scans of chewed and mashed raw sugar cane bagasse, bordered by sugar cane stalks sourced from Convent, LA, which were then transformed into Photoshop composites and printed on sugar paper. This process, along with the resulting abstract images, evokes the violence of enslaved labor and the sugar industry, emphasizing the arduous nature and hyper-production of sugar cane – a living relic that links the histories of Louisiana and the Caribbean region.
From the Anatomy of Saccharum series.
