Louise Mouton Johnson has used a technique called photo-silkscreen or photo-serograph to produce a series of pictures based on the life of Louis Armstrong as a young man in New Orleans. Photo-silkscreen uses a high contrast black and white transparent positive of a photographic image to create a silkscreen stencil. The artist has hand colored the photo-silkscreen with colored pencil, graphite, and oil pastel.
