  • Artist: Cecelia "Cely" Tapplette Pedescleaux (b. 1945)

Cecelia Tapplette Pedescleaux is a self-taught quilter born in the 7th Ward of New Orleans. Her love of fabrics started when she was a child. Quilting is something she loves doing because she likes creating. Pedescleaux's quilts are 75% research, 15% cloth, and 10% heart. Her quilts have been shown at her church’s annual quilt show, The National Conference of Artists' annual MLK Commemorative Art Exhibition, the New Orleans African American Museum (NOAAM), Jazz and Heritage Gallery, the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), Stella Jones Gallery, Southern University at New Orleans, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, & the New Orleans Museum of Art.
